Neda Agha-Solten

June 20, 2009 is a day I will never forget as I watched in sheer horror a young woman being shot down because she was watching the protests. That could have been me. June 20th is Neda Agha-Solten Day.

To the family of Ms. Neda Agha-Soltan, my condolences go out to you and your family. Know that her death was not in vain. And yes, the world is watching. This senseless violence has got to stop. To my Iranian brothers and sisters who want democracy and freedom, continue to stand up for your freedom and democracy - never give up.

PETA Opportunist

Is PETA serious about the fly swatting incident at President Obama’s interview? Well, PETA, I guess you can put me on your list too, because I will kill one in a heartbeat; roaches, gnats, ants, any bug that crawls on me I will kill it till I disintegrate it! I don’t like bugs. There is disdain in me for PETA, because they use propagandist and extremist ways to get point across and they only hurt other people for the causes they fight for. They put me in the mind of the opening of 28 days, were this group of animal rights activist break into a top secret testing lab and release rage infected animals, thus starting a world-wide pandemic.

Groups like PETA are good causes, however, their agenda is misplaced and they pick the most in humane things to get their point across, like defacing someone’s Mink coat, purses or other personal effects that use animal products and the like and in my opinion that only makes things worse and defeats the purpose. Let us not forget that the average working class citizen is a product of consumerism and should not be attacked over the thing they purchase or do with their money. They really should be directing their cause at major corporations, not individuals per se. Assaulting someone to get them to adhere to their campaign is in humane. I am appalled at most of the things they do, because they always seem to hurt other human beings. As far as I am concerned, maybe they should change their name to a more appropriate name People for the Ethical Treatment of Other Humans.

Donte Stallworth

There is much talk about Donte Stallworth and how he was charged. Plainly, he made a plea deal and worked with police and in the end he was charged and sentenced accordingly. Many people and sports fans alike feel that he should have been given a harsher sentence and possibly stripped of his football contract or given a long suspension, really. Well, I disagree. I don't feel that there should be any additional punishment for his crime. I am sure this whole ordeal is enough punishment for him; family, career, etc. I know deep down inside Donte Stallworth is remorseful for what he did and will undoubtedly pay the family, if any, should they file civil charges for punitive damages, as in the case of Brandy Norwood.

It is always a tragedy when someone looses their life, by accident, especially, by the hands of an entertainer or an athlete or someone of prominence. It is even more tragic when it is intentional. However, to cry foul play in the judicial system is wrong. Our justice system works just fine. New laws, such as “Stand Your Ground” in Florida is given people more security. Anyway, just as most felt that his sentence was unfair, it brings to mind the greatest injustice of all time and that is all the African-Americans that were killed between 1400-1800’s, rather, during slavery and segregation era. The same judicial system that is in place today, was in place then and most white men who hanged, lynched, slaughtered, etc. black men, women, and children, were not convicted of these heinous crimes or they got a slap on the wrist and how do you think their families felt.

We can just turn on and off what we think about our judicial system. As far as I am concerned, the judicial system has never worked on African-American’s behalf even today, hence, the high prison rates, but that is a whole different lollipop. However, change has come and continues to change. Donte’s sentence was according to law simple as that.

One thing you have to realize is that no one on this Earth is perfect. Entertainers and athletes are in no way different from the average person; they get into trouble and do stupid things like driving while intoxicated. In the end Donte Stallworth has to live with what he has done. The family of the victim has to live with what has happened and ultimately move on with their lives as well. So, let’s just stop the whining and complaining, what is done is done, now let us move on.
